Nail Care Vitamins

Keep Your Nails Healthy With Nail Care Vitamins

January 11, 2013 by Danny

Manicure or pedicure on a regular basis does not complete the care that your nails need. If your body is deficient with a particular vitamin or mineral, it will be manifested at a certain point. Your nails are actually made of keratin – a form of protein that protects the fingertips, and provides texture, strength and color to your nails. You'll definitely need nail care vitamins in keeping these intact and in preventing other nail problems.

Nail care vitamins help prevent brittleness, appearance of ridges, discoloration and dryness. Your fingers and nails both need these vitamins for nourishment. You can get the nail care vitamins that your body requires from the food you eat. The best vitamins and minerals are found in many colorful fruits and vegetables, so make sure that you include them in your diet from now on. Milk, eggs, fish, lean meats, and other protein-rich foods are good for boosting keratin to help keep your nails and hair healthy as well.

Here's a list of specific nail care vitamins that you should add into your diet.

  • Vitamin A – provides moisture and keep nails from becoming brittle

  • Vitamin B – stops ridge formation and prevents nails from becoming fragile; also prevents nail fungal and bacterial infections

  • Vitamin C, folic acid and protein – help prevent hangnails and white bands

  • Vitamin E – this improves nail texture and strength

  • Vitamin B7 – or biotin, is a nutrient that naturally occurs in the nails and hair; enough supplements of vitamin B7 helps improve the health of your hair and nails

  • Vitamin B12 – prevents dry, curved and dark nails

  • Vitamin K – has a huge role in protecting the body; enough vitamin K in the body prevents internal and external blood clots

  • Selenium, copper and zinc are minerals that are also essential and beneficial for your nails. These minerals can help smoothen and improve the texture of your nails.

You may ask your doctor regarding supplements that can provide nail care vitamins aside from the usual nutrients that your body needs. You'll find many options available, but it's ideal to seek advice first so you won't compensate your health and well-being.
